"Kurbaan", starring the hottest couple of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, is a romantic thriller with some of the elements of terrorism. This duo and the amazing script are expected to make this movie a blockbuster in the series of Indian film. The film also stars Dia Mirza, Vivek Oberoi, Om Puri and Kirron Kher. Kurbaan unleashes the consequences of the Islamic terrorism in the West. Keeping in mind the name and theme of the movie, the songs are made intense, purely based on the theme rather than melodies. They are not only to fill the movie but with only 5 original tracks and no fillers, audience can maintain their full interest in the movie and not get distracted by the fillers. This is the first ever terrorism based movie by Karan Johar, amongst all his Indian films made. Not like most of the movies based on terrorism in the league of Indian films, the storyline of this movie is bit different. Kareena Kapoor returns back to India in order to be with her father who is unwell. She somehow manages to get a job in a University. She gains a strong feeling for Saif Ali Khan, who is also working in the same University as a substitute teacher. Both of them get married and leaves for New York for a new life. The story builds up when they try to locate a house and lands up at one house that Saif Ali Khan likes. There she has to abide by some rules that seem to be a bit odd and unacceptable by Kareena Kapoor. Everyone accepts the rules but Salma. Salma pays a visit to Avantika (Kareena Kapoor) and tells her that her life is not safe and she requires help. Bizarre events take place leading Kareen Kapoor to an outburst of emotions turning her mad.
Kurbaan can be another feather in the cap for Indian films league.
Good movie ... Not the usual Karan Johar flick, where you know there's a love story, there's drama, a lot of Rona-dhona, and finally a happy ending ... Well, that was different, it was a love story, it had its share of drama, but it was not very predictable. I would say, okay story, good performances, maybe not worth the rewards, but certainly not boring. People were actually designed to highlight the typical accents.
The story begins in Delhi where Kareena Kapoor is a Professor of Psychology (and guess what she's wearing a designer skirts college ... wow!). Saif Ali Khan joins the same college, and tries very hard to woo Kareena and it makes it very easy for him. One of the songs and about 20 minutes later they were married and heading to New York (a really fast pace of life is ...!!).
The story takes turn when a young couple find themselves in the house all the Indian Muslim families around the neighborhood and they start interacting with them. This is where the story becomes a gripping one surprise after another has shown the audience. This is when you start to feel oh cool movie becomes interesting now ...
This movie had a few surprises in store, Dia Mirza & Nauheed was as good as their little cameos. Vivek Oberoi was surprisingly good, he also acted (yes I mean the acting and not over-acting!). Saif Ali Khan was a good thing. Kiron Kher as always was good, with a perfect accent to Afghanistan. Kareena Kapoor well, lets not talk to him now!
The movie was fast paced and the storyline was interesting, but there were times when the director came back to a typical Hindi masala movie stuff - all of a sudden change of heart of some of the main characters well you were supposedly fighting for jihad two dialogues have changed your religion? Come on purpose ... Only the FBI agent & a hero to survive the blast of bombs, which will take off the whole of the building ... Well, that is a Hindi movie for you ..!
At the end, one does not understand what the message was a director or story writer was trying to convey in this film, you were in favor of those few who believe that violence is the only way to resolve issues, and each person should take to arms to take revenge for all the evils which happened in the past? Was the director trying to preach a lesson of peace? Was the director trying to convey the message of the Western world that they should stop interfering in other people's business? What was that? Are you trying to show only the story of a few individuals who believe that has happened to them and their families, so they take revenge and terrorism? Terrorism is not only taking a few more hands, it's a much bigger problem.
